Remembering: When Kirby Puckett died a private funeral service was held in Wayzata Minnesota March 12. Later a public ceremony was also held at the Metrodome, it was attended by 15,000 ballplayers, coaches, fans, and his friends and family. At the ceremony eulogies were given by Harmon Killebrew, Dave Winfield, and Cal Ripken. He was also known for his work in community projects. He hosted a billiards tournament benefiting pediatric heart research, worked with antidrug programs, and bought tickets to Twins games for poor children. Most friends, family, and teammates also remember him for his big, happy smile. Lastly Kirby Puckett was inducted to the MLB Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001.
